International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance
An Comhairle Idirnáisiúnta um Thraidisiúin Cheoil agus Rince
The International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance (ICTMD) is a non-governmental organisation in formal consultative relations with UNESCO that is represented in 137 countries and regions globally. ICTMD Ireland, also known as An Comhairle Idirnáisiúnta um Thraidisiúin Cheoil agus Rince Éireann (CITCR), brings a local focus to the activities of the ICTMD world network.
CITCR provides a regional forum for scholars of diverse musical traditions, organising conferences, study days and workshops, amongst other activities. The functions of ICTMD Ireland include encouraging national and international archives for all types of music and dance in Ireland, including traditional, folk, popular, classical and urban music and dance; cooperating with broadcasting organisations; formation of national sub-committees and study groups; and supporting the organisation of festivals of performing arts in Ireland. In 2011 ICTMD Ireland launched the peer-reviewed online journal Ethnomusicology Ireland, a journal for research on music in its social and cultural context.
